I took pictures of my Dutch colleague's passport. Sorry for that but nobody can't see any important information of you. People are often curious about what other countries' passports look like. That is why I post this one here. In some sense, I think the passport of a country represents the level of their graphic design. I have believed that the Netherlands is one of strongest countries in the field of graphic design, considering their previous banknote graphics for example. However, the graphics in the passport are not impressed at all. The pages for visa look a lottery graphic design with many numbers and with pink color.

더치 동료의 여권을 몇장 찍었다. 미안하다.. 그러나 아마두 너의 중요한 개인정보를 볼 수 없으니 너무 걱정마시길. 사람들은 다른 나라의 여권들이 어떻게 생겼는지 자주 궁금해한다. 그게 더치 여권에 여기에 올린 이유다. 어떤 의미에서 한 나라의 여권은 그 나라의 그래픽 디자인의 수준을 보여준다고 생각한다. 그동안 나는 네덜란드의 구지폐의 그래픽을 볼때 네덜란드가 그래픽 디자인 강국중의 하나라는 것을 의심해 본적이 없다. 그러나.... 그들의 여권 그래픽들을 보니 그동안 네가 가졌었던 강한 인상들은 전혀 없다. 비자를 위한 페이지들은 복권 그래픽같다... 많은 숫자들과 그리고 핑크색때문에.

On the way to attend a meeting, I always used to carry a notebook and a pencil case with me. Their shapes were rectangular but their sizes are quite different. The result was that holding and carrying the two things together in the hand were not comfortable. Also, I realized I didn't need many pencils to write down whatever was discussed during meetings. Just one pencil (or a pen) is fairly enough. Frequently I left a meeting room leaving my pen, which resulted in often losing my pens. These reasons drove me to design this notebook with a pencil groove. Recently and accidentally I found a British design company also was making and selling a notebook as similar as mine. Theirs look much nicer. I should have done it before they put them in the market. What a pity? You can order the notebook designed by me with 6 euro, though. :)

미팅에 참석하러 가는 길에 나는 항상 수첩 한권과 필통을 들고 갔었다. 그 수첩와 필통의 모양은 네모고 그들의 사이즈는 서로 아주 다르다. 그 결과로 수첩와 필통을 한손에 잡고 들고가는 것은 불편한 일이었다. 또한 미팅 중에 토론되는 어떠한 것들을 노트에 적는데 많은 필기구들이 필요치 않았다. 펜 하나만 있으면 아주 충분하다. 때때로 미팅 후 펜을 미팅룸에 남겨두고 떠날때도 많다. 그 결과로 자주 내 펜들을 잃어버렸다. 이러한 이유들이 연필홈을 가진 수첩을 만들게 했다. 최근에 그리고 우연히 한 영국의 디자인회사가 이것과 유사한 노트를 만들고 판매하고 있는 것을 알게되었다. 물론 그 친구들 것이 휠씬 좋아보인다. 그들보다 시장에 먼저 시판해야하는 것을... 아쉽다고 해야하나? 그러나 여러분들은 제가 디자인하고 만든 이 제품을 외화낭비 없이 10000원에 주문하실 수 있습니다. :)

There is a saying in Norway that there are two kings: the monarch king and the Noodle King, Mr. Lee. The creator of the noodle brand of the same name, Mr. Lee’s instant noodles are about as popular as the man himself. And it was for that reason that the international design firm, Design Bridge, worked to create an image for the brand that reflected the character of Mr. Lee, while also boasting its own uniqueness.

The result was a quite literal interpretation of the Noodle King, with his unquestionable wit, celebrated smile, and boldness. The grinning illustrations that adorn the noodle containers are a sort of caricature of Mr. Lee, yet they remain honest to the product and its founder. Countless design awards — and Norwegians — agree that whatever the history or motivation, it works.

노르웨이에는 왕이 두명이라는 이야기가 있다: 원래의 왕과 누들킹 미스터 리. 미스터 리는 그의 이름 그대로 누들 브랜드를 만들었고, 그의 컵라면은 그 만큼이나 유명해졌다. 이유인즉, 인터내셔널 디자인펌 Design Bridge가 미스터 리의 유닉한 것을 강조하며 그의 캐릭터를 반영하는 패키징에 디자인을 했기때문이다.

그 디자인의 결과는 누들왕의 글자그대로의 해석이었다. 즉, 의심할 여지가 없는 그의 위트, 유명한 그의 미소, 그리고 그의 뱃심. 누들 포장을 장식하는 방긋 웃는 일러스트레이션들은 일종의 미스터 리의 캐리커처. 그러나 그것들은 그 제품과 그것의 설립자의 솔직함이 묻어있다. 수많은 디자인어워드들은 (노르웨이사람들 또한) 그 역사와 동기가 어떠하든간에 이 패키징 디자인이 먹힌다는 것에 동의하고 있다.
