In Europe, green color in gas stations refers to gasoline and black diesel. However, American gas stations use a different color code for identifying between gasoline and diesel: that is, the code is vice versa (the European color code makes sense because the color green associates environmentally-friendly image and generally speaking gasoline is more environmentally-friendly than diesel). It's so confusing especially if you are from Europe. I wonder why both continents have adopted the exactly opposite color code for automobile fuel.
It is well known that Korea has brought many things related to social, economic, and business system from America. But things in South Korea are not always the same as those in the US. For example, the way of calculating octane values is different between the two countries: 88 in American is almost the same as 93 in South Korea. From this perspective, many of things in South Korea are actually the results of the mixture from many other countries.
유럽의 주유소들은 휘발유에 대해서 녹색으로 그리고 디젤에게는 검정색으로 인식하게끔 되어있다. 허나 미국의 주유소에 가보면 그 두가지 연료의 식별에 있어 다른 칼라코드를 적용하고 있다. 즉, 미국에서는 유럽과 반대다. 검정이 휘발유, 녹색이 디젤 (사실 유럽코드가 인식에 더 쉽다. 왜냐하면 그린은 친환경을 의미하고 디젤보다는 휘발유가 일반적으로 친환경적이니까). 만약 당신이 유럽에서 왔다면 특히 헤깔릴 수 밖에 없다. 왜 유럽과 미국이 자동차의 연료에 관해 정확하게 반대의 색상코드를 사용하고 있는지 몹시 궁금하다.
다른 이야기... 한국이 사회, 경제, 비지니스 시스템과 관련된 많은 것들을 미국으로 부터 도입해온 것은 이미 잘 알려져있다. 하지만 사실 한국에서의 그러한 것들이 미국의 그것들과 항상 일치하는 것이 아니다. 위 사진에서와 같이 단편적인 예로서 두 나라 사이의 휘발유 옥탄가의 계산법이 틀리다: 미국의 88은 실제로 한국의 93과 비슷하다. 이러한 맥락에서 보면, 사실 한국에서의 많은 것들은 다른 많은 나라들로부터 들어온 것들의 혼합의 결과이다.
