Artesis hogeschool Antwerpen was established in 1995, as the result of a merger that involved 17 institutions of higher education. The college comprises numerous departments, ranging from linguistics, nursing and computer science to fashion, fine arts, music, dance, drama and product design. Many of the former independent colleges have been leaders in higher education for long. For instance, Royal academy of fine arts was founded about 350 years ago. The world famous Antwerpen fashion school also belongs to this academy now too. More interesting one than these histories is that Van Gogh studied here once: the last picture says Vincent Van Gogh had been a student from 18 January till 30 March, 1886 (about two and half months) just before he went to France. At that time he was 32 years old. Considering four years later he died in France, leaving many masterpieces of his, I wonder why he wanted to study fine arts instead of being a teacher at the school.
아트시스 호게스쿨 안트베르펜은 그 인근의 17개 고등교육기관을 통합하면서 1995년에 설립되었다. 이 직업전문학교는 많은 학과들로 구성되어있다. 통역, 간호, 컴퓨터싸이언스부터 패션, 미술, 음악, 댄스, 연극 그리고 제품디자인까지. 통합 이전의 전문학교들의 상당수가 그 분야에서 오랫동안 리더의 자리에 있었다. 예를 들어, 왕립미술학교는 350년 전에 세워졌다. 또한 세계적으로 유명한 안트베르펜 패션학교도 이 대학에 속한다. 이런한 역사적 사실보다 더욱 흥미로운 것은 반고흐가 한때 여기서 공부했다는 것이다. 마지막 사진 속의 대리석판은 빈센트 반고흐가 1886년 1월 18일부터 3월 30일까지 약 두달반동안 학생이었음을 알리고 있다. 이 시기는 반고흐가 프랑스로 가기 바로 직전이고 그의 나이 32세일때다. 이로부터 4년 동안 많은 걸작들을 남기며 프랑스에서 운명을 달리한 반고흐를 생각할 때, 그 학교에서 미술선생이 되는 것 대신 그는 왜 학생이 되기를 원했던 걸까?
