It is a clear proof of how much tastes are dependent on local culture.
입맛이라는 것이 얼마나 많이 현지문화에 의존적인지를 보여주는 단편적인 사례.

I suppose this idea came from designers for the resort we stayed to use leaves as textures on footpath blocks. It is a brilliant design idea to combine artifacts with leaves which are part of the nature. I used to think it was humorous just to keep dog footprints on cement, which accidentally happened sometimes. Spotless perfectionism is very often boring to me.

추측컨데, 보도블럭 위에 나뭇잎들을 이용하여 텍스추어를 남기는 것은 우리가 묵었던 리조트를 디자인했던 디자이너들의 아이디어였을 것이다. 인공물과 자연의 일부인 잎들을 조합하는 것은 멋진 디자인 아이디어다. 때때로 보였던 시멘트 위의 개가 우연히 남긴 발자국들을 그대로 두는 것도 재미있어 보이곤 했다. 오점 하나 없는 완벽주의는 자주 자주 나를 지루하게 만든다.

A busy city, Bangkok. There are big differences between the city center and the outskirt of the city. Typical urban look in developing countries. All the ways people go through in the busy center have been used for capitalism. People eyes don't have time to take a rest with eye-catching colors and designs. It might be an effective way of promoting products but people might have no time to turn their head to see them on the staircase because of the busyness in modern society. Perhaps, it works to free and curious tourists like me.

붐비는 도시. 방콕. 도심과 도시외곡은 아주 큰 차이들이 보인다. 그 대조는 개발도상국에서의 전형적인 도시 모습이다. 붐비는 도심에서 사람들이 지나다니는 모든 길들은 자본주의에 의해 사용되어왔다. 시선을 사라잡는 색들과 디자인들로 사람들의 눈은 쉴 틈이 없다. 제품 홍보를 위한 효과적인 방법일 수도 있지만, 현대사회의 그 바쁨때문에 사실 계단에서 그 광고들을 보기위해 사람들이 머리를 돌릴 틈이 있을까. 나같이 한가하고 호기심 많은 관광객이라면 몰라도....

Praying seems one of the most important daily habits to Thai people. There are many tiny religious places where people can easily wish something at Bangkok. This is one of them in the center of Bangkok. The modernized metropolis and people who are praying at a humble and tiny place. A big contrast. Maybe people wish something that capitalism and urbanization have deprived them of.

기도는 태국사람들의 일상에서 중요한 습관들 중에 하나처럼 보인다. 방콕에는 실제로 사람들이 쉽게 언제나 기도할 수 있는 아주 많은 작은 종교적 장소들이 있다. 사진에서의 것은 방콕 도심에 있는 것들 중에 하나인데... 현대화된 대도시와 작고 소박한 곳에서 기도를 하고 있는 사람들 속에서 묘한 대조를 느낀다. 아마도 사람들은 자본주의와 도시화가 그들에게서 앗아간 것들을 위해 기도하고 있으리라....

This is not so different from Japanese or Chinese steam boat. The range of ingredients is broad than Japanese but narrow than Chinese. Actually, there are not big differences between Asian countries with regard to food.

타이수끼는 일본 샤브샤브와 중국의 훼궈와 큰 차이는 없다. 식자재들의 다양함이 일본 것 보다 많고 중국 것에 비해서는 택도 없다. 음식에 관해서는 아시아 국가들 사이에 큰차이는 없어 보인다.
