로테르담 공연장 De Doelen. 입장권이 하나 남는다고 해서 의지와는 상관없이 클래식 공연을 보러가게 되었다. 처음의 곡들은 현대 클래식 곡들이라 이해 보다는 졸음이 먼저 강림하셨다. 하지만 한국과는 다르게 공연 그리고 영화상영 중간에 꼭 15분 정도의 휴식이 있어 사진 찍을 시간이 있었다. 다행히 휴식 후에 이어진 곡은 Mahler의 Symphony였다.
이 곳에서도 디자인에 대한 이야기를 그냥 지나칠 수 없는데, 오른쪽 제일 위에 있는 사진은 공연 정보 포스트인데 07/08이라고 적혀 있다. 이게 2008년 7월을 이야기하는 건지, 7월과 8월일 이야기하는 건지, 8월 7일을 이야기하는 건지 참으로 헤깔린다. 그리고 왼쪽 제일 아래 사진에서 signboard는 휴식시간이 얼마나 남았음을 아려주는 실용적인 디자인이다. 폰트며 금연싸인은 맘에 안들지만. 마지막으로 오른쪽 제일 아래, 화재나 비상시에 비상구를 알려주는 싸인등이 2개가 나란히 붙어 있어 위급한 상황에서 사람들은 둘 사이에서 잠시 몇초라도 망설이지 않을까? 2개 대신 한방향으로 하나만 사용하는 것이 더 효율적일 것 같다는 생각을 해본다.
I went to a classical music concert at De Doelen in Rotterdam regardless of my intention: there was an extra ticket to the concert and I was pushed to come together there by my friends. In the first half of the concert, modern 20 century classical music was played, which was difficult to enjoy and so made me sleepy. By the way, there was about 15 mins break time after the first half, different from those in Korea (even movie theatres have the same as that). Fortunately the symphony of Mahler whi I like was played after the break.
I can't pass without saying about design here. In the upper right picture, you can see 07/08 on the poster which advertise a concert. But it's not clear at all whether it means July 2008, July and August, or 7 August. Really confusing! In the lower left picture, there show a signboard to let people know how much time is left until the concert begins again. It is really efficient design although font and non-smoking sign look ugly. Last, you can see two exit signboards in the lower right picture. I wonder how people react to the two ones in case of fire or emergency. Probably peole could hesitate in front of them thinking the direction to take: it could consume several seconds which would be very long time in an emergency sitaution. I think just an exit signboard would be better than two.
