In comparison to the subway in Paris, London's is more clean and looks more modern to me. both stations looks much more horrible and messy than those which I have ever seen, though. There have been many experiments to reduce crimes at subway stations: e.g. help point or emergency alarm system. However, most of them only stand there as if they are sculptures. To make it worse, they don't work properly as the above picture. It is very frustrating. I think a surveillance system by an authority would be more efficient than the way a user requests any help. I found the consistence in color schemes between public design in London and one in its stations: black has been used a lot (see the information board to announce subway arrival). The red colored ring representing a subway station is well emphasized in London's mono-tone atmosphere. The button to open the subway door makes users confused because it looks like going-up and -down buttons in elevators. I used to feel hot from hard cabin floor in Seoul's subway. The wood which covers the cabin floor would lower the temperature on the flooe and be an alternative to make users feel emotionally comfortable.

파리의 지하철과 비교할 때, 런던의 지하철이 더 깔끔하고 현대적으로 보인다. 물론 둘 다 형편 없기는 하지만. 지하철역에서의 범죄가 증가하면서, 예방차원에서 다양한 알람시스템들이 등장해왔다. 하지만 하나 같이 그것의 기능은 무시되고, 조각물처럼 지하철역의 한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 또한 더 실망스러운 것은 대부분 작동이 잘 되지 않고, 수리 중이라는 것이다. 이런 현실을 감안할 때 위험에 처한 사용자에 의해 작동되는 이런 수동적 시스템보다는 카메라와 같은 적극적 감시시스템이 더욱 효과적일 것으로 생각된다. 런던의 public design에서 보아왔던 것 처럼 검정색 위주의 색상 계획이 지하철 출도착 안내판에도 일관성 있게 적용되고 있다. 한편 지상에서 지하철 역임을 알리는 런던의 빨간색 원모양 사인은 무채색 위주의 런던에 효율적인 가시성을 주며 기능적으로 잘 디자인되었다고 본다. 그치만 지하철 객실 내의 출입구 문을 열는 버튼은 모양이 엘리베이터의 상승 혹은 하강 버튼과 유사하여 혼동을 일으킬 소지가 다분하다. 서울에서 지하철을 타면 바닥이 뜨거워서 발에 땀이 났던 기억들이 많은데, 나무 바닥을 채택한 런던의 지하철은 발바닥의 체감 온도를 완화하고 사용자들의 감성적 느낌을 한층 편안하게 해주는 바람직한 디자인인 것 같다.
