The university of Twente is the only campus university in the Netherlands, surrounded by the forest and closely located at the border to Germany. I have visited the university several times for our project meeting since 2006. What I like most is I feel like being in the forest anywhere there: I can be easily relaxed. There are some artworks in the campus as well (I heard there are some buildings designed by Rietveld). The picture upper left shows an artwork called 'the tower of the drowned village Drienerlo'. It represents the corruption of Christianity. I know no more than that, unfortunately. In the picture upper right, two apparatuses which are used for air-conditioners are hung by some wires and tubes. I am not sure whether they are an artwork or not, but I like the idea to hang them outside instead of usual steel frames to hold them.
독일 국경 부근에 위치하여 숲으로 둘러싸인 트웬트 대학은 네덜란드에서도 유일한 캠퍼스 스타일의 대학이다. 2006년 이후로 일 때문에 자주 방문했는데, 이 곳에 오면 대학에 있는 것이 아니라 숲속에 있는 것 같아서 좋다. 또한 캠퍼스 군데군데 예술작품들도 보인다 (리즈벨트가 디자인한 건물도 있다고 들었는데). 위 왼쪽의 사진은 기독교의 부패 혹은 몰락을 상징하는 '익사한 마을 드리엔로의 교회탑'이다. 더 깊은 의미가 있을 것 같긴한데... 그리고 위 오른쪽 사진에서 에이컨의 실외기 두개가 창 밖으로 매달려있는 것이 보인다. 예술 작품인지 100% 확신은 못하지만 일반적인 철재 프레임대신 그냥 체인으로 매달아 놓은 것 자체가 특이하고 좋아보인다.
On the way to the railway station after a meeting, I passed through the region of student houses. Some looked recently built while the others still had the look of 60's. Personally, I prefer the old-fashioned building which seems very functional. It might be because I am getting old?
미팅을 끝내고 기차역으로 가는 길에 학생들의 기숙사 구역을 지나갔다. 일부는 최근에 새로 지었는지 아주 모던해보인다 반면 다른 기숙사들은 60년대 풍이다. 개인적으론 새로 지은 것 보다 아주 기능적으로 보이는 오래된 건물이 좋다. 내가 늙어서 그런가?

새로 지은 건물들이 아무래도 기능적으로는 더좋지 않을까요? 뭐 가봐야 알겠지만 보편적으론 말이죠.
그나저나 애인과 헤어졌다능! ㅎㅎ
