I think the use of primary colors are often seen in developing but dynamic countries such as South Korea (There would be someones who argue against my notion that South Korea is developing. Anyhow...). In addition, the spectrum of primary colors used in those countries is broader than for example European countries. As you see in the picture, blue, red, yellow, and green are still often used in normal Korean people's lives. However, primary colors are hardly seen in the Netherlands. Some architectures have some primary colors, influenced by De stijl movements, though. Orange is popular in the Netherlands but it is seen only on special occasions such as food ball matches and national ceremonies. Maybe you could recognize how dynamic and stable a country you visit is by checking primary colors the local people are using.

생각컨데, 원색들의 사용은 남한과 같이 선진국이 아니지만 다이나믹한 국가들에서 자주 목격되는 것 같다 (한국이 선진국이 아니라는 나의 의견에 딴지를 걸고 싶은 분이 있겠지만 아무튼..). 게다가 이러한 나라들에서 사용되는 원색들의 스펙트럼이 예를 든다면 유럽의 국가들보다 휠씬 넓다. 즉, 사용되는 원색들이 많다는 거다. 사진에서 보듯이 파랑, 빨강, 노랑, 그리고 녹색과 같은 원색들은 남한 서민들의 일상에서 여전히 자주 사용되고 있다. 허나 네덜란드에서는 이런 원색들은 찾아보기 힘들다. 데스틸 운동의 영향을 받은 일부 건축물들은 몇가지 원색들로 치장되어 있지만. 오렌지색은 네덜란드에서 대중적이지만 축구경기나 국가행사와 같은 특별한 경우에만 사용되고 있다. 아마도 여러분이 방문한 국가의 현지 사람들이 사용하는 원색들을 체크함으로서, 그 나라가 얼마나 다이나믹하고 안정적인지 알 수 있지 않을까?

Color is the most intuitive and direct source to catch people's eyes in the field of design. So there exists a guideline to limit the number of colors in order to avoid dislike or confusion. For instance, using too many colors in product design, especially in interface design, doesn't draw people's interest or help use perception. Anyhow, colors are very powerful when the use of them is appropriate in terms of quantity. This could be applied to food too. That is to say, the mixture of many colorful ingredients doesn't always mean tasty food. In food, the quantity of colors and the harmony between them are important. In this sense, the fishes in the picture would not be sold well. They look fancy decorated with colorful fish eggs and guts but do not look like something people really want to eat. They look as if they had toxic to me. This indicates that even when selling food ingredients shopkeepers should pay more attention to using colors.

색이라는 것은 디자인의 영역에서 사람들의 시선을 잡는 가장 직관적이고 직접적인 소스이다. 그래서 혐오나 혼돈을 피하기 위해 사용되는 색상의 수들을 제한하는 가이드라인이 존재한다. 예를 들어, 제품디자인 특히 인터페이스디자인에서 너무 많은 색상을 사용할 경우 이는 사람들의 관심을 끌지 못할 뿐만아니라 사용에 대한 인식에도 전혀 도움을 주지 못한다. 어쨋든, 색이라는 것은 양적인 면에서 적절하게 사용될 때 엄청난 힘을 가진다. 이는 음식에도 적용될 수 있다. 즉, 칼라풀한 식자재들을 많이 혼합하고 사용한다고 해서 항상 맛있는 음식이 되는 것은 아니다. 음식에 있어서, 색의 양과 조화가 중요하다. 이런 의미에서 사진 속의 생선들은 잘 팔리지 않을 것 같다. 칼라풀한 생선알들과 내장들로 장식되어 화려하게 보이지만 사실 사람들이 먹고 싶어하는 그런 식자재로 보여지지는 않는다. 이 화려함은 오히려 나에겐 독으로 보인다. 이는 결국 식자재를 팔때 조차 가게 주인들은 색의 사용에 있어 더 많은 주의를 기울여야함을 말해준다.

Why is that women are in red and men in blue? Actually this red and blue toilet sign can be easily seen in South Korea. As far as I know, this color distinction between women and men don't seem European and American. I wonder what on earth these color codes come from.These color codes really helps us better perceive between ladies' and gentlemen's room? (although I admit clear color codes do so. for instance, red and green in traffic light system).

왜 여자는 빨갛고 남자는 파란걸까? 이 빨강 파랑 화장실 사인은 한국에서 쉽게 볼 수 있다. 내가 아는 한 이와 같은 남녀의 색상구분은 유럽과 미국에서는 볼 수가 없다. 도대체 이 색상코드가 어디서 온 것인지 몹시 궁금하다. 이러한 남녀의 색상구분이 우리의 남자 화장실 여자 화장실 인식에 진짜 도움을 주고는 있는걸까? (물론 교통신호등의 빨강색 그리고 녹색처럼 분명한 색상코드는 우리의 인식에 도움을 주고 있는 것은 인정하지만)
