I was waiting for food I had ordered at the garden of a Mexican restaurant in Tucson. I was curios about a PET bottle on the table, which was fully filled in with tiny pebbles. I suppose sometimes it seems to be windy out there and the restaurant needs this sort of heavy thing so that the menu boards on the table are not blown away. It didn't appear very nice on the table but it was interesting that the bottle was differently used.

투손의 어느 멕시칸 레스토랑의 정원에서 주문한 음식을 기다리다가, 테이블 위에 놓여있는 페트병에 눈이 갔다. 이 페트병은 작은 자갈들로 채워져있었는데, 추측컨데 정원이 바깥에 있다보니 때론 바람이 심하게 불어서 테이블 위의 메뉴판들이 바람에 날아가지 않도록 해줄 이런 종류의 무거운 물건이 필요했나보다. 식탁이라는 정서에서는 그렇게 좋은 아이디어로 보이지 않지만, 페트병이 또 다른 용도로 사용된다는 것이 흥미롭다.

how to be differently used
In the next morning I arrived at Hamburg, I had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. I was looking for a jam bowl near where jams were for my bread. But there were no bowls next to them at all. Instead, ice cream cones lay there. I had no idea why they were there until I looked at other people using them as jam bowls. The ice cream cones were used as jam bowls, indeed. It is such a good idea in the sense that people can easily dispose of jam leftover at a mouthful without adding bowls into a dishwasher. Environmentally-friendly idea. In addition to that, it is even delicious to have jam together with the wafer cone.

용도: 아이스크림 콘
아이스크림을 담아주는 먹을 수 있는 와플로 만들어진 원뿔모양의 용기

다르게 사용되는 경우
함부룩에 도착한 다음날 아침, 호텔 레스토랑에서 아침식사를 했다. 빵에 발라먹을라고 잼들이 있는 곳 부근에서 잼 담을 용기를 찾고 있었다. 하지만 그 부근엔 잼 담을 만한 용기는 없고 대신 아이스크림 콘들이 놓여있었다. 레스토랑의 다른 손님들이 그것들을 잼 담는 그릇으로 사용하는 것을 보고서야 왜 그것들이 잼 옆에 놓여있는지를 알 수 있었다. 아이스크림 콘이 잼을 담는 용기로! 식기세척기의 노동을 덜어주면서 사람들이 쉽게 한입에 남은 잼을 해결할 수 있게 하는 실로 멋진 아이디어다. 친환경적 발상. 게다가 와플로 된 콘과 잼을 같이 먹으면 정말 맛있다.

The ICPA conference was held at Delft at the end of August. I was temporarily invited there as a photographer. Today I finally had a moment between busy daily lives to post a scene of the conference dinner. I am getting busier and hardly see light at the end of the tunnel: my party in the summer seems to be finished.

8월말 ICPA 학회가 델프트에서 열렸다. 사진을 찍어달라는 부탁을 받고 학회에 참석. 바쁜 일상들 속에서 오늘에야 학회 저녁만찬 사진 한장을 포스팅할 틈을 찾았다. 시간이 갈수록 더욱 바쁘지는 것 같고 거의 여유를 찾아보기 힘들어진다. 나의 화려했던 여름날의 만찬은 끝나가는 것 같다.

홍콩 7일 동안, 동고동락(?) 했던 동료들. 그들은 아시아인이며 홍콩을 이전에 와봤던 나보다 홍콩을 더 잘 알고 있었다. 어쩌면 홍콩은 이미 아시아가 아닌지도 모른다. 홍콩의 식당에서 특이했던 점은 항상 플라스틱컵에 아주 뜨거운 물이 제공 된다는 점. 중국답게 차도 아니고...

Some companions of mine during a conference in Hong Kong. They seemed to know more about Hong Kong than me who had been there before and at the same time is an Asian people. In that sense, Hong Kong may not be Asia any more. One werid thing at all restaurants in Hong Kong, very hot water was served in a plastic cup, which was different from a cup of tea as usual in our common sense on China.
