An interesting architecture in Mechelen. It seems to have been a beer brewery factory. This building was renovated as a culture center for this cozy city. More detailed information about the building was written in Dutch. It was troublesome to translate. So, the overall feeling only: the view from inside the building is so cool.

메흘렌의 흥미로운 건축물. 예전에 이 건물은 맥주 양조장이었던 것 같다. 현재 그 건물은 이 푸근한 도시의 문화센터로 레노베이션되었다. 이 건축물에 대한 상세한 정보들은 네덜란드어로 되어있어 번역하기 귀찮아 그때의 느낌만 남긴다. 이 건물 안에서의 전망은 강추.

sustainable architecture?

Many Hanseatic buildings of Bryggen are currently used for shops which sell Norwegian cultural things. The buildings are made of wood and almost 700 years old. Although the municipality has exerted lots of efforts to keep them preserved, there has been some distortion like in the picture. Considering the age and the material of the buildings, it is already a well-sustained architecture.

브뤼헨의 한자동맹 건물들의 많은 부분이 노르웨이의 문화나 지역 제품들을 팔는 상점들로 사용되고 있다. 나무로 만들어진 이 건물들은 거의 700년이나 되었다. 지방당국이 그 건축물들을 잘 보존하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이는데도 불구하고 사진에서와 같이 건물의 변형들이 일어나고 있다. 이 건축물의 나이와 재료를 고려할 때, 이미 충분히 잘 지속가능(?)해준 건물이다.

The direct use of raw materials such as steel, glass and wood are often observed in German buildings. The combination of them doesn't look awkward at all (I'd like to name this style 'German aesthetics'. It seems to do with their ethnicity, hardcore engineers, although ethnicity is a strange word in Europe.

철강, 유리, 목재와 같은 순수재료들의 직접적인 사용은 독일 건축에서 많이 목격된다. 그 재료들의 조합이 전혀 어색하지 않다 (이를 '독일 미학'이라고 부르고 싶다). 이는 하드코어 엔지니어 같은 그들의 민족성(사실 유럽에서 '민족'이라는 개념을 사용한다는 것이 좀 이상하지만)과 관련이 있는 것 같다.

Cosanti is the gallery, studio and residence of Italian-American architect Paolo Soleri, where he and his late wife had established their residence in metropolitan Phoenix in 1956, on a site (just a few miles from Taliesin West, where Soleri studied). "Cosanti" fuses two Italian words, "cosa" (which means "things") and "anti" ("against"). Many structures have been placed underground level and surrounded by mounds of earth, so as to be insulated naturally for moderation of their interior temperatures the year around. Most of these structures were built using the earthcasting method: Concrete was poured over pre-shaped earthen molds, and the earth excavated after the concrete solidified. The result is innovative, biomorphic, and environmentally responsible. A modified earthcasting technique is also used to craft the bronze and ceramic wind-bells produced at Cosanti.

코산티는 이탈리아 출신의 미국 건축가 파울로 솔레리의 갤러리, 스튜디오, 집을 말한다. 솔레리와 그의 두번째 와이프가 1956년 대도시인 피닉스에 새운 그들의 거주지였다 (이곳은 솔레리가 프랑크 게리에게서 건축을 배웠던 탈레신 웨스트로부터 몇 마일정도 떨어져있다). 코산티는 이탈리아 말로 '것들'을 뜻하는 Cosa와 '반대하여'를 뜻하는 Anti의 합성어다. 따라서 의미적으로는 '어떤 것들에 반항하며'이다. 이곳의 대부분의 구조물들은 지하레벨에 위치해있으며, 흙더미에 둘러싸여져있다. 이는 흙 속에서 일년 내내 구조물의 실내 온도를 온화하게 하기 위한 자연적인 보온을 위한 것이다. 이 구조물들의 대부분은 어스캐스팅 기법을 바탕으로 만들어졌다: 콘크리트가 땅속에 만들어진 틀에 부어지고 나중에 콘크리트가 굳으면 그 틀로서 사용되었던 땅을 파내는 것. 그 결과는 혁신적이고, 생물형태처럼 보이는 친환경적인 건축물이 된다. 이 어스캐스팅 기법은 코산티에서 생산되는 청동과 세라믹으로 만들어진 풍경들을 만들때도 사용되고 있다.
