Automobiles are one of the greatest inventions in human history. However, they become just something most nettlesome and useless as it breaks down.

[project: why not design] oil barrel

Apparently Texas is the state of oil (Alaska is No. 1 in oil production in the US, indeed), which has made it one of the richest states in the US. Strangely there is no oil production in Arizona even though large part of the area is barren deserts like Texas. Regardless, oil barrels are often seen on the streets in the state, not as crappy cans but as well-designed trash cans. They seem to bring used oil barrels from their neighbor states. It is impressive that the barrels are reborn as good-looking public furniture there.

color in usability

It is not a new design to use different color codes in parking lots anymore, which aims to make users easily recognize where their cars are parked. For instance, Incheon airport also has a similar one in the underground parking place. However, I have forgot the color on the floor my car was parked sometimes. Because of the forgetfulness, symbols such as animals, windmill, and tulip are used in parking lots in the Netherlands along with different color codes. It helps memorize a location a lot in a sense that real things such as kangaroo are more manifest in our cognition system than abstract things such as color.
