This artwork at the museum seems to have nothing to do with a Korean culture who eat dogs as food. It appears to say about animal abuse. However, I wanna to tell this to whom eat dogs: it is summer... the time came again you can enjoy it. There is nothing I can blame for the fact we Korean ate dogs as food when we were very poor and were dying of hunger. But why are we still eating dogs in the period when we are suffering from obesity? You might say it's a matter of taste or it's our food culture. You're right. If you saw this rotating artwork on the site, some of you might agree with me.
뮤지엄의 이 예술작품은 개고기를 먹는 한국 문화와 관련이 없어 보인다. 이 설치미술은 동물학대에 대해 말하는 것 같다. 하지만 이 자리를 빌려 개를 드시는 분들에게 한마디: 여름입니다. 여러분들이 그것을 즐길 시기가 왔죠. 우리가 가난하고 배고파 죽고 있을 때 살기 위해 개를 음식으로 먹었던 것에 대해 비난할 것은 전혀 없습니다. 그치만, 비만으로 시름하고 있는 이 시대에.... 왜 우리는 아직 개를 식용으로 먹어야하는지... 그러겠지요, 취향의 문제다 우리의 음식문화다. 그럼 할 말이 없죠. 그래도 만약 여러분들이 동물들이 매달린채 돌고 있는 이 작품을 현장에서 본다면, 여러분 중에 몇몇은 저의 생각에 동의하실텐데...

One of the reasons I don't like the United States is simple....because there is everything. You can buy anything you want to have, make, cook and so forth. An affluent society might end up people being fat or being lazy. In that sense, I like a country where everything is not possible to get. Then, I miss something I can't have there and also I could realize how important something is to me. Many things I can learn in the country. The picture shows some fried Korean street food which we cook with difficulty to find ingredients by ourselves at Copenhagen. To me, the street food that you can easily find in anywhere in South Korea is more than just cheap food on the street, since I came to Holland.
내가 미국을 그다지 좋아하지 않는 이유는 간단하다. 미국에는 모든 것들이 있기때문이다. 여러분이 소유하길 원하고, 만들기 원하고, 요리하길 원하는 모든 것들을 구할 수 있다. 풍요로운 사회는 결국 사람들의 비만과 게으름을 낳을 것 같다. 그런 의미에서, 나는 모든 것을 구할 수 없는 그런 나라가 좋다. 그곳에서 내가 가질 수 없는 것들을 그리워하고 또한 그만큼 얼마나 그 가질 수 없는 것이 소중한지 깨닫는다. 풍요보다 부족함에서 많은 것들을 배운다. 사진은 한국의 튀김 분식이다. 물론 우리가 코펜하겐에서 힘들여 만들었다. 나에게는 적어도, 한국에 가면 어디서나 볼 수 있는 길거리 음식이 단지 길가의 저렴한 먹거리로는 보이지 않는다. 이곳에 온 이후로.

A food control condition certificate with cute and sad faces in a restaurant at Copenhagen. The Food Authority has used the smiles to let customers know how safely food in a restaurant is controlled. If you are interest in this system, please visit here. It shows the current condition as well as the ones during last nine months, which makes it easy that people can see the history of the restaurant with regard to sanitation. It is a design that gives people a feeling of fun in dealing with sanitary conditions, which could be easily nasty and unpleasant.
코펜하겐의 어느 레스토랑에서 귀엽고 또한 슬픈 얼굴을 가진, 식품 관리 상태를 보여주는 정부 공인 증명서. 덴마크 식품관련 당국은 식당을 이용하는 사람들에게 얼마나 그 식당이 위생적으로 음식들이 관리되고 있는지를 알리기 위해 이 다양한 미소들을 사용하고 있다. 이 시스템에 더 알고 싶으시면, 이 링크로 가보세요. 이 증명서는 현재의 위생상태뿐만 아니라 과거 9개월간의 기록도 보여주고 있다. 이로써 그 식당을 이용하는 사람들에게 식품 위생에 대한 충분한 정보를 제공한다. 위생 상태를 다룰 때 쉽게 불쾌하고 기분이 상할 수 있다는 것을 생각할 때, 이러한 미소들은 오히려 이용자들에게 유쾌한 재미를 주고 있다.

This is not so different from Japanese or Chinese steam boat. The range of ingredients is broad than Japanese but narrow than Chinese. Actually, there are not big differences between Asian countries with regard to food.
타이수끼는 일본 샤브샤브와 중국의 훼궈와 큰 차이는 없다. 식자재들의 다양함이 일본 것 보다 많고 중국 것에 비해서는 택도 없다. 음식에 관해서는 아시아 국가들 사이에 큰차이는 없어 보인다.@ bangkok in october 2008

Sushi, cooked fork, tofu, panfried food and Kimchi with a glass of red wine. We eat these kinds of food here. Very rarely: either inviting people or being invited to dinner. This is the latter.
초밥, 수육, 두부, 전, 김치 그리고 한잔의 레드와인. 우리는 이런 음식들을 여기서 먹는다. 아주 드물게. 우리가 손님들을 초대하거나 혹은 우리가 초대를 받거나. 여기선 후자의 경우다.

3월말에 프로젝트 전체 미팅. 5명의 PhD 학생들과 교수, 그리고 기업체 사람들이 모두 모인 자리에서 프로젝트의 성공을 기원하며 케잌을 잘랐다. 축하는 좋지만 결국 우리 박사과정생들은 모두 난자당하고 사람들의 뱃속으로 사라졌다. --;
There was a meeting where all stakeholders including 5 PhDs gathered and talked at the end of March. A cake was prepared to wish success of the project. For celebration, we 5 PhDs were harshly stabbed and disappeared into their stomaches. :(

이 곳에서는 한국에서 경험하던 모든 것들을 경험할 수 없다. 그러나 가끔 한국에선 별 거 안닌 것들이 여기서는 특별로 취급된다. 이 알탕, 맛은 한국의 것들과 달랐지만 그 특별함과 감회로 특별함으로 다가왔다.
Everything is not always possible here but sometimes there is something special like this although the taste of this was a little different from one that I had had in my country before.

삿뽀로라는 일본식 레스토랑에서 철판요리를 먹다. 친형, 형수 같이 잘 챙겨주시는 분들과 함께하다. 네덜란드에서 와서 먹거리에 대한 재미 있는 사실은 우선 중국음식만 파는 중국음식점이 없다는 것이다. 중국식, 인도네시아식, 수리남식 음식을 다 같이 팔고 있다. 네덜란드가 다민족 국가라는 것을 간접적으로 보여주는 예이기도 하다. 그리고 일식음식점들은 인테리어며 음식, 유니폼 등 모든 것이 일본스럽지만 (사진에서 보는 것과 같이 한국 일식집에서 조차 보지 못했던 일본풍의 가운을 철판볶음을 먹을 때 제공한다), 사실 알고 보면 대부분 중국인 사장에 중국인 종업원들이다. 껍데기는 일본인데 중국말로 대화하는 그들을 보고 있으면, 돈을 위해 변장(?)도 스스럼없이 하는 그들이 무섭게만 느껴진다.
One evening we went to a Japanese restaurant called 'Sapporo' for dinner. We had fried food on a big hot plate with a couple treating us like their younger siblings. The funny thing about food here is that there are almost no Chinese restaurants who serve Chinese food only. They serve Indonesian as well as Surinamese food. This is an example to show how international and diverse people who live here are. Meanwhile, everyting in Japanese restaurants here looks like real Japanese. For instance, interior design, food, uniform of waitresses and so on (Japanese style gowns are provided to customers who eat fried food on a big hot plate, which I haven't seen at Japanese restaurants in South Korea in the above picture). However, the thing is most of people working at Japanese restaurants here are not Japanese but Chinese: owners, cook, and waitress as well. When I saw them talking in their language, Chinese, I was scared about the fact that they pretend to be the Japanese for money.
