About a week ago I had an yearly agreement meeting with my bosses. I was told that too much kindness might mean less self-confident on the other hand: smiling and saying yes because people want to hide their
weakness. Indeed it's useless. No need to give someone too much kindness. Just show me to others as who I am and say to others what I can do.
I looked at people around me who look very kind. Unfortunately, I can see whether their kindness is true or not. Some are truely kind while the others are politically kind. Mean people! If I have been politically living, it is the time to be honest to the others.
한 일주일 전쯤, 나의 보스들과 소위 앞으로 1년 동안의 실적을 논의 하는 미팅을 했다. 미팅에서 너무 친절한 것은 한편으론 좋은 것이지만, 다른 한편으론 자기 스스로에 대한 자신감이 없기 때문이라는 이야기가 나왔다. 약점을 감추기 위해 사람들 앞에서 웃고 '예스'라고 말하는 것. 사실 너무 친절할 필요도 없다. 그냥 있는 그대로의 나를 다른 사람에게 보여주면 될 뿐. 내가 할 수 있는 것만 말하면 될 뿐.
내 주변의 친절한 사람들을 본다. 불행히도 나는 그 친절함이 진실인지 위선인지 보인다. 그들 중에는 진정으로 아름다운 사람들이 있는가 하면, 모두들에게 항상 친절고 항상 예스라고 말하는 정치인들도 있다. 사악한 부류들. 적어도 나 자신은 정치적이지 말아야지. |
