Sugar and a teas spoon to stir it in a coffee cup. This is a very common combination when a cup of coffee is served at cafeterias: sometimes a tea spoon with two lumps of sugar wrapped in a paper, or sometimes a tea spoon with a glass bottle containing sugar. There is a way both can be combined into a single: a thin wood stick on the end of which a lump of sugar is stuck. Just put the stick into a coffee cup and then stir it. That's it. No need of a tea spoon.

설탕과 설탕을 커피잔에 넣고 젓을 티수푼. 카페에서 한잔의 커피를 마실 때, 아주 흔한 조합이다: 때때로 2개씩 개별포장된 각설탕과 티수푼 혹은 설탕이 담긴 설탕통과 티수푼. 이 둘이 한번에 합칠 수 있는 방법이 있다: 설탕 한 덩어리가 가는 막대의 끝에 붙어있다. 그냥 그 막대를 커피잔에 담그고 젓어주면 끝. 티수푼이 굳이 필요가 없다.

analogue sugar

Since the occurrence of the digital world, people have missed analogue stuff such as analogue watch, radio, and scale, to which they got used. For sugar, there are digital and analogue ones. Let say, cube sugar has digital characteristics in the sense that users can choose only one or two lumps of sugar (discrete) while sugar in a bottle like the one in the picture has analogue traits in the way that users can pour sugar as whatever quantity you want (continuous). I like the idea of the sugar bottle because it seeks for being analogue. However, it's difficult to control the amount of sugar, which is put into a coffee cup, with the finger grip: either too much sugar or too little sugar. After all, its usability isn't analogue at all. It's a pity it doesn't meet the analogue function.

디지털의 시대의 출현으로 사람들은 아날로그 시계, 라디오, 저울과 같은 익숙했던 아날로그를 그리워해왔다. 설탕에서도 디지털과 아날로그가 있다. 음... 사용자들이 각설탕 한개나 두개만을 선택할 수 있기 때문에 각설탕은 디지털 특성을 가진다 (불연속성). 반면, 병에 들어 있는 설탕은 사용자들이 설탕의 양을 임의로 조절할 수 있기때문에 아날로그의 특성을 가진다 (연속성). 아날로그를 추구한다는 의미에서 설탕병의 아이디어가 좋다. 하지만 사용해보니, 설탕량을 조절하는 손가락 손잡이는 정확한 양을 조절하기에 부적절하다: 너무 많이 쏟아지거나 너무 작게 쏟아진다. 사용성 자체는 결국 전혀 아날로그가 아니다. 아날로그적 사용성이 아쉬운 제품이다.
