Surveillance cameras are everywhere, watching us on the street, on the subway station, and even in the playground. They are very popular nowadays. The reason they exist is only to protect people as labors and artifacts, which they have manufactured, that are where authorities can hardly reach. They are very like authorities in reality: they rarely intend to listen to people's voice. They are deaf. What if the cameras have microphones to hear voices of people in danger? In fact, only visual information doesn't provide enough awareness to observers or watchers. Imagine... an observer is supposed to confront many screens to watch. He can be easily and fast aware of what is going on in what screen with giving sound as well as visual information. Surveillance system now needs to have an interest in the sense of hearing. So do authorities.
감시 카메라들은 어느 곳에나 존재한다. 요즘 인기 폭발이다. 길에서 지하철역에서 그리고 놀이터에서 조차 우리들을 지켜보고 있다. 그들의 존재의 이유는 권력이 미치기 힘든 곳에 있는 생산자로서의 인간과 그들이 만들어낸 인공물들을 보호하기위해서 이다. 그 카메라들은 아주 많이 현실에서의 정부 당국과 닮았다: 정부당국이나 그 카메라들이나 좀처럼 사람들의 소리를 들을려고 하지 않는다. 귀머거리들이다. 그 카메라들이 위험에 처한 사람들의 목소리를 듣기 위한 마이크를 가지고 있다면 어떨까? 사실 시각적 정보만으로 관찰자나 감시자들에게 충분한 인식을 제공하지 못한다. 상상해보자... 관찰자는 지켜보아야할 많은 스크린들과 마주 보고 있어야 한다. 시각 정보에 소리라는 정보까지 제공된다면 어떤 스크린에서 어떤 일이 일어나는지 더 쉽고 빠르게 인지할 수 있다. 감시 시스템은 이제 청각에 관심을 가질 필요가 있다. 정부당국도 당근 그래야한다.
