 unfamiliar interface in a bus

I was used to pressing a button on a bus to let the driver notice I am getting off in the next stop. But a wire type was used to do so in Arizona. It was a bit weird to me. Talking about its use, it wasn't as efficient as the button type because the feeling to pull the wire wasn't as clean as a button type and sometimes it was stuck somewhere, so the bus driver should make it in the correct position. In addition, the loose wire didn't look good in the bus. Strange Arizona Bus!
다음 버스정류장에 내린다는 것을 알리기 위해 버스 안에 있는 정차버튼을 누르는데 익숙해져있었는데, 아리조나에서는 그 버튼 타입대신 와이이 타입이 사용되고 있다. 요상한 것 같으니라고. 그것을 사용해보니, 버튼 타입보다 효울적이지 못한 것 같다. 이유로는 첫째, 줄을 당길 때 느낌이 버튼 타입만큼 깔끔하지 못하다. 뭔가 찝찝하게 늘어지는 느낌. 그리고 둘째로 그 줄이 어딘가 걸린다. 그래서 가끔 버스운전사 아저씨가 차를 새우고 그 줄을 다시 바로 해야한다. 그뿐만 아니라, 버스 안에서 늘어진 와이어는 뭔가 어글리해보인다. 요상한 아리조나 버스같으니라고!

Even Bangkok has the bus traffic information system (the picture below right).... you know how horrible Bangkok traffic is. the display device design of the system looks crappy, though.
방콕도 버스 교통 정보시스템을 가지고 있다 (아래 오른쪽 사진)... 방콕 교통이 지옥같은 데도... 정보시스템의 디스플레이 장치는 별루다.

In a tuk tuk .... feel both still and speed at the same time. A new experience although suffering the horrible Bangkok pollution.
툭툭에 앉아 스틸과 스피드를 동시에 느끼다. 새로운 경험.... 무시무시한 방콕의 공해를 경험했지만..

The first three pictures were taken on the metro. An interesting thing is that a sign of a monk is beside those of children, pregnant woman, and elderly people, which means that people are supposed to give their seats to them. It makes sense because monks are very respected in the Thailand. The last one looks quite funny. It was photographed in the taxi. I suppose that Thai people are so sensitive to smell owing to its hot and humid climate that Thai taxi drivers need the sign in their cap. I think this sign needs some public spaces such as metro, bus, and elevator as well. I was nearly vomiting several times because of assholes who farted in those kinds of public places sometimes.
처음 3장의 사진들은 메트로(지하철)에서 찍은 것이다. 흥미로운 것은 스님의 사인이 아동, 임산부, 노인들에게 자리를 양보하라는 사인들 옆에 나란히 있다는 것이다. 스님이라는 신분은 태국에서 매우 존경받는 사람들이기에 이해가 된다. 마지막 사진에 있는 사인은 아주 웃기다. 어느 택시 안에서 본 사인인데, 추측컨데 태국의 덥고 습한 날씨로 인해 태국사람들이 냄새에 아주 민감해서 태국의 택시기사들이 이런 사인을 택시안에 붙인 듯하다. 이런 방귀금지(?) 사인은 지하철, 버스 그리고 특히 엘리베이터와 같은 공공장소들에서 필요하다고 생각한다. 때때로 그러한 공공장소에서 방귀를 끼는 무례한들때문에 거의 토할뻔한적이 몇번이나 있었기에...

London's bus information board. They have adopted distinguished color codes for bus numbers and routes. The information on the board seems visually clear and easy to see. However, no color in the bus numbers is used on the board hanging by the pole. It's also a bit dissatisfying that there is no additional visual information such as a simplied map on which realistic routes are shown.
사진은 런던의 버스정류장의 버스 정보시스템의 단편적인 예를 보여주고 있다. 버스 번호와 행선지 표시에 잘 식별되는 칼라 코드를 적용하였다. 겉보기에는 시각적으로 보기 쉽게 디자인된 것 같다. 하지만 폴의 상단에 위치한 정차하는 버스 번호에는 칼라코드가 적용되지 않았다. 또한 버스의 루트를 현실적으로 보여주는 간략한 지도가 빠져 있는 것도 흠이라면 흠인 것 같다.

In comparison to the subway in Paris, London's is more clean and looks more modern to me. both stations looks much more horrible and messy than those which I have ever seen, though. There have been many experiments to reduce crimes at subway stations: e.g. help point or emergency alarm system. However, most of them only stand there as if they are sculptures. To make it worse, they don't work properly as the above picture. It is very frustrating. I think a surveillance system by an authority would be more efficient than the way a user requests any help. I found the consistence in color schemes between public design in London and one in its stations: black has been used a lot (see the information board to announce subway arrival). The red colored ring representing a subway station is well emphasized in London's mono-tone atmosphere. The button to open the subway door makes users confused because it looks like going-up and -down buttons in elevators. I used to feel hot from hard cabin floor in Seoul's subway. The wood which covers the cabin floor would lower the temperature on the flooe and be an alternative to make users feel emotionally comfortable.
파리의 지하철과 비교할 때, 런던의 지하철이 더 깔끔하고 현대적으로 보인다. 물론 둘 다 형편 없기는 하지만. 지하철역에서의 범죄가 증가하면서, 예방차원에서 다양한 알람시스템들이 등장해왔다. 하지만 하나 같이 그것의 기능은 무시되고, 조각물처럼 지하철역의 한 부분을 차지하고 있다. 또한 더 실망스러운 것은 대부분 작동이 잘 되지 않고, 수리 중이라는 것이다. 이런 현실을 감안할 때 위험에 처한 사용자에 의해 작동되는 이런 수동적 시스템보다는 카메라와 같은 적극적 감시시스템이 더욱 효과적일 것으로 생각된다. 런던의 public design에서 보아왔던 것 처럼 검정색 위주의 색상 계획이 지하철 출도착 안내판에도 일관성 있게 적용되고 있다. 한편 지상에서 지하철 역임을 알리는 런던의 빨간색 원모양 사인은 무채색 위주의 런던에 효율적인 가시성을 주며 기능적으로 잘 디자인되었다고 본다. 그치만 지하철 객실 내의 출입구 문을 열는 버튼은 모양이 엘리베이터의 상승 혹은 하강 버튼과 유사하여 혼동을 일으킬 소지가 다분하다. 서울에서 지하철을 타면 바닥이 뜨거워서 발에 땀이 났던 기억들이 많은데, 나무 바닥을 채택한 런던의 지하철은 발바닥의 체감 온도를 완화하고 사용자들의 감성적 느낌을 한층 편안하게 해주는 바람직한 디자인인 것 같다.
