A fish market at the east coast in South Korea was crowded with tourists. An interesting trash bin design I found here. It was made of a unused fish trap: there are some similarities between trash bin and fish trap in terms of shape and function. Both usually have a round shape. Their function is actually the same because both are used in collecting and holding things. This fish trap trash bin is quite a cool design in a sense that unused materials can be reused and also it represents the identity of fishing villages well.

남한 동해안에 있는 어느 어시장은 관광객들로 붐볐다. 여기서 흥미로운 휴지통 디자인을 발견했다. 이 녀석은 사용되지 않는 통발로 만들어졌다. 사실 쓰레기통과 통발 사이에는 형태와 기능의 측면에서 몇가지 유사점들을 가지고 있다. 즉 둘다 보통 둥글고 그것들의 기능도 사실 같다. 즉 둘다 어떤 것을 모으고 붙잡고 있다. 이 통발 쓰레기통은 폐자원의 재활용 측면에서 그리고 어촌의 아이덴티티를 잘 살려준다는 의미에서 아주 멋진 디자인이다.

The sign says "illegal fly-tipping under surveillance" and "max. 75 euro fine to those who violate". This can be often seen. This kind of threatening doesn't work well, though. The design of the sign itself looks quite terrible. Maybe by putting a trash bin there this annoyance both of people who throw away and people who find garbage feel could be worked out.

사진 속의 간판 왈, "쓰레기 불법 투기 단속 중" 그리고 "위반시 100만원 이하 과태료". 이런 종류의 사설 간판들을 종종 목격할 수 있는데, 이런 방식의 협박이 잘 먹히지 않는 것이 사실이다. 간판 디자인 그 자체로 형편없고. 아마도 이곳에 쓰레기통 하나 갔다는 놓으면 이런 버리는 사람들이나 발견하는 사람들 모두의 짜증들이 해결될 수도 있지 않을까?

XXL trash bin

In Arizona, I saw many trash bins for which drum cans were used. As an oil-producing country (oil mafia), they must have a lot of empty cans after use. So, reusing them for trash bins is a good idea from environmental perspective. Another reason might be that American people can't live without this kind of XXL size trash bins in the sense that common size of trash bins can't accommodate their super huge amount of waste, indeed.

아리조나에서 석유드럼통을 만들어진 쓰레기통들을 많이 보았다. 산유국(오일 마피아)로서 그들은 사용된 폐드럼통들 많이 가지고 있을 것이고, 그것들을 쓰레기통으로 재활용하는 것은 환경적 측면에서 좋은 아이디어이다. 아마도 다른 이유는 그들이 XXL 사이즈의 쓰레기통없이는 살수가 없다는 것이다...일반적인 크기의 휴지통으로는 그들이 소비하고 배출하는 어마어마한 양의 쓰레기더미를 수용할 수 없기때문일 것이다.
